What fundamentally is the difference between a person who WOULD try a drug offered at a party and who WOULDN' T?

Assuming this is their first time trying an illicit drug. Why would one person think "OK let's give it a go" and get high, and the other person think "No way, drugs are bad for you." What is the difference between these two, why would that first one make that decision?
