Why is there less energy required to ionise 3s1 than 4s1 orbitals?

Sorry if the question above doesn't make sense, but here is the original question:

The electronic configurations, X and Y, for two uncharged atoms of Na are as follows:

X: 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s1
Y: 1s2 2s2 2p6 4s1

Which of the following statements is true?

The answer is:

Less energy is required to ionise Y compared to X.

I would've thought that 4s1 would require more energy, so I'm really confused.

Thanks.

What is a VPN?

VPN is (Virtual Private Network) were first used by companies to enable their employees to securely access internal systems such as email remotely (e.g. from home or while on business trips). Today they are increasingly being used for personal use by individuals to protect their privacy while online in public places (e.g. when using the wi-fi connection in a cafe) or in a country where the internet is censored / blocked (e.g. China, Saudi Arabia…).
